Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock has backed his side to turn around their shoddy away form this season as the campaign progresses.

The Bluebirds' boss was speaking ahead of his team's Friday night clash with Sheffield Wednesday at the Cardiff City Stadium and was asked about his plans for turning around their travelling displays.

“I don’t think we are far away from doing well away from home," Warnock told his pre-match press conference on Thursday, reported by Wales Online.

"It’s one of those things. We’ve been punished and rightly so. We’ve been our own worst enemy at times.

“The second goal at West Brom... If you give a goal away like that, an amateur goal, a Sunday League goal, it puts us on the back foot. We have to stop doing things like that."

Heading into the match at the Cardiff City Stadium, the South Wales side sit in 11th place, but if it were only away fixtures that counted they would be battling relegation.

Last time out saw them lose 4-2 away to West Bromwich Albion in a thrilling encounter at The Hawthorns, in what was their third away loss of the season.

They are still yet to pick up three points on their travels this season, with their next opportunity set to come next Tuesday away to Millwall.

The verdict

This is a problem that Cardiff really need to sort if they are to seriously challenge for promotion.

Losing the odd away game is no disaster, nor is a well earned point, but when you are not picking up any three-point hauls, concern starts to creep in.

I think you have to back Warnock to get it right, however. A man of his experience will not want his final season in South Wales to end in an underwhelming fashion, so he will be pushing every last step of the way this season.
