Nottingham Forest fans appear to be full of optimism following their Championship survival this year, and will hope to build upon their safety.

Further optimism has been granted as the have new owners in charge who, given recent links with new players, appear ready to spend to take them well away from League One football.

Their squad does need plenty of surgery if they do want to avoid a relegation scrap once again this season, but do have glimpses of quality in the likes of Britt Assombalonga and Chris Cohen.

One player who is currently out-of-favour at Celtic, a situation that Forest should look to take advantage of, is Gary Mackay-Steven, who has struggled to break into the team under Brendan Rodgers's regime.

Forest would face competition from the likes of Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield United, who are also reportedly hoping to swoop in for the former Dundee United player.

During his time at Dundee United, Mackay-Steven proved to be one of the trickiest forward thinking players in the Scottish Premier League, leading to his move to Celtic in January 2015.

Rated at £638k on Transfermarkt, he was a prominent figure in their 2015/16 side but has failed to make any more than nine appearances this year, and will likely be keen on a move this summer.

Mark Warburton will recognise the quality of top Scottish Premier League players after his time at Rangers, and has shown he is not afraid to bring them into the Championship fold, already signing Jason Cummings from Hibernian this summer.

Forest would be wise to bring in the Scotsman who will provide something different to what they already have going forward, and would likely cost very little.
