Queens Park Rangers manager Mark Warburton has moved to reassure fans that the club are working to bolster their attacking options ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

This summer has seen seven new faces arrive but also Luke Freeman and Matt Smith leave to join Sheffield United and Millwall respectively whilst Nahki Wells and Tomer Hemed both returned to their parent clubs.

"We’re all aware that there’s still a lot more work to do," he told the club's official website on Thursday.

“Matt Smith moved to Millwall this week, so I’m sure our supporters are panicking about the striker situation.

"We have some targets – some very clear targets. But it’s a tough market and what we have to do is find the right balance between getting work done early and being patient."

Their seventh signing of the summer was confirmed on Wednesday afternoon when centre-back Conor Masterson signed on a two-year deal after his contract with Liverpool expired.

The 20-year-old signed for the Reds as a 16-year-old back in 2013 for just under £1million and progressed through the ranks to the club's reserve side but never managed to break into the first-team.

He joins Dominic Ball, Luke Amos, Yoann Barbet, Matt Smith, Lee Wallace and Liam Kelly through the door at Loftus Road as they look to climb the table after narrowly scraping to safety last season.

The verdict

QPR fans seriously need to trust Warburton here.

He has dealt with limited budgets before and always ends up doing a decent job so patience is very much needed here.

The work done already has been impressive and points to an encouraging change in attitude towards a more sustainable approach in the transfer market.

The no doubt sizeable fee received for Luke Freeman's services will go a long way to helping bolster their attack this summer and I am interested to see what is pieced together at Loftus Road.
