Nottingham Forest manager Mark Warburton has told striker Apostolos Vellios that he must be patient in his search for first team action, with the Reds’ other forwards bang in form.

The 25-year-old Greek international showed decent form last season after moving to the club from Iraklis, and will be keen to force his way back into Warburton’s plans with a World Cup looming.

Vellios scored six goals last season as Forest narrowly avoided the drop, but the form of new signing Daryl Murphy has restricted his chances up top, and the excellent start to the year made by Barry McKay and Jason Cummings has seen Vellios pushed down the pecking order.

The emergence of Ben Brereton and Tyler Walker has also gone against the former Everton man, but speaking to The Nottingham Post, Warburton was delighted with delighted with the options available to him in the forward positions.

The former European champions narrowly avoided the drop last season, but the depth added to the squad by the former Brentford boss this summer has transformed the club into potential promotion candidates.

The Verdict: Warburton has worked wonders at Forest this summer, and the arrival of so many new faces has forced Vellios to the back of the line.

With the World Cup fast approaching, the striker will want to ensure that he is on the plane to Russia should the Greeks qualify, and may seek a move away from the City Ground before the transfer window closes in the coming days.

Vellios has the ability to play a role in Forest’s season, but only time will tell how the player will seek to resolve his lack of playing time.
