Queens Park Rangers’ manager Mark Warburton has warned that Ebere Eze still has ‘loads of work to do’, after the 21-year-old netted twice at the weekend.

QPR resumed their Championship campaign with a 3-2 win at Hull City.

Jarrod Bowen gave Hull the lead on the half-hour mark, before Ryan Manning levelled before the break.

Ebere Eze scored twice from the spot in the second-half to give QPR the eventual win, with Josh Magennis netting a late consolation for Hull.

Speaking about Eze’s performance after the game via West London Sport, Warburton said:

“I think he is a very talented player, he’s a great character, but he’s a young player. He’s got a lot of development potential left in him but he’s got loads of work to do to realise that potential.

“He’s a type of player that will score outstanding goals for you, and create goals for you, but so does Ilias [Chair] and Bright [Osayi-Samuel] and Nahki [Wells] and Jordan [Hugill]. Two centre-forwards who have scored seven and six each, so they are scoring goals, but it’s all about us as a team.”

The victory was their fourth in their previous six games and took QPR up to fifth in the Championship, just three points behind leaders West Brom.

“What was pleasing for me to see, after making a 60-yard run for that first penalty, was that he could have rushed the penalty,” said Warburton. “But it was important that he just calmed down, let the heart slow a little bit, and then focus on the penalty, and he did that. He showed great composure and concentration.

“For a young lad to do that, all credit to him, but as I say it’s about the team.”

With the brace at the weekend, Eze took his tally to six for the season - two more than his record for the whole of last season.

QPR welcome Mark Bowen's Reading tomorrow night and they'll be well aware of Eze's presence - they'll have a tough time keeping him quiet at Loftus Road tomorrow.

The verdict

Everyone at QPR knew Eze was a special talent. At times last season he was too inconsistent, and sometimes lacked confidence on the ball.

But this season under Warburton, he looks a completely refreshed player.

He'll be the driving force behind any success QPR have this season, but Warburton is right - there's still a long way to go for Eze, and he's plenty of hard graft to put in to keep progressing.
