Sky Bet Championship side Queens Park Rangers are interested in signing Aston Villa forward Scott Hogan on loan this summer, according to reports from West London Sport.

The 27-year-old is a player that R's boss Mark Warburton will be no stranger to, having signed him for Brentford from Rochdale back in 2014.

Warburton failed to see the best of Hogan at Griffin Park - the forward endured bitterly disappointing spells on the sidelines with injury, but he came into his own under Dean Smith, and left for Aston Villa in 2017 having scored 21 goals in 33 league appearances for the Bees.

Hogan has since endured a frustrating spell at Villa Park, and following their promotion to the Premier League, his chances of breaking into the first-team are now increasingly limited.

He netted twice in eight appearances on loan with Sheffield United last term, and another loan move could be in the offing for the Republic of Ireland striker, with QPR reportedly interested in a move.

The R's have been active in the transfer thus far, completing the signings of Liam Kelly, Lee Wallace and former Brentford man Yoann Barbet, with a new forward now believed to be on the radar for the Hoops.

The Verdict

I think a move to QPR could be the best destination for Hogan to reignite what looked to be a very promising career in the EFL a few years ago.

You have got to feel sorry for him in a way, he simply couldn't turn down a move to a club the size of Aston Villa at the time, but looking back he will know that he should have remained at Griffin Park.

But, in Warburton, he would have a manager that knows him like the back of his hands, and a manager that can promise him regular game-time next season.

They definitely need a new forward, with their leading goalscorer being Nahki Wells with nine goals last term.
