Walsall today have added their fourth summer signing to their squad in former Charlton forward Jordan Cook.

Released by the Addicks this summer, Cook joins the Saddlers on a two-year deal.

The deal sees Cook return to a club where he impressed on loan from Sunderland in the 2010/11 season where helped Dean Smith's side in a successful battle against relegation from League One.

Following that spell at the Bescot, Cook impressed at Carlisle United, also on loan from Sunderland, from which he earned a move to Charlton.

However in two seasons at The Valley Cook struggled for first-team opportunities, playing just 10 games without scoring. His last appearance for the Addicks came on January 18th this year in a 1-0 defeat against Middlesbrough.

“I’m really excited to be back,” Cook told www.saddlers.co.uk. “I really enjoyed my first spell and I’ve kept an eye on the club’s results ever since."

“When Dean expressed an interest in me, I jumped at the chance to come back. I had an excellent relationship with him and have stayed in touch ever since.

“The club have made massive strides under his leadership and I can’t wait to push the club on even more.”

Manager Dean Smith has expressed his delight in securing a long-term target for Walsall today. “He’s a player who will score goals for us. He brings us something that we didn’t have last season; he’s quick, gets in behind and scores goals.

“He’s played in the Premier League – against Manchester United and Chelsea – and he has played in the Championship. He’s a very good player who I’m looking forward to working with.”

Cook has joined defender James O'Connor, keeper Craig MacGillivray and striker Tom Bradshaw in signing for Walsall this summer. The club were also recently boosted by full-back Andy Taylor committing his future to the club.

The Saddlers are expecting to still make a few more additions for the summer, but right now Dean Smith is delighted to have signed up his number one target.
