Walsall boss Jon Whitney has urged his squad to have no mercy when they face a struggling Gillingham side tonight.
The West Midlands club are currently in fine form, having lost just once in their last seven games.
Unfortunately the same cannot be said for Justin Edinburgh’s Gillingham side, who have not won in five games and have lost their last four.
The Gills boss will certainly be feeling the pressure going into the game and may view tonight as an opportunity to turn his side’s season around.
Speaking to the Express and Star, Whitney said: “The plan is to be nice and solid at the back and then hurt them with our attacking play,”
“Their form has dropped. It is a tough place to go but it is also a game we are really looking forward to.
“It’s a good pitch, it’ll be under the floodlights and we have got momentum with just one loss in seven.
“We have to keep doing what we’ve been doing, but tighten up on set-pieces. We know they are dangerous but we will concentrate on ourselves and what we do well.”
The start of the campaign has been a disappointment to Gills fans, who were expecting more given the high-profile players brought in over summer, including Paul Konchesky, Scott Wagstaff and Jay Emmanuel Thomas.
Walsall won just once in their first eight league games this season but have vastly improved since their disastrous start to the season.
Despite the differences in form, the two sides meet at Priestfield with just one point separating them in League One.
