‘Walk away’, ‘This guy will bury us’ – Many worried Derby fans respond to Erik Alonso’s latest tweet

Despite securing their Championship status for the 2021/22 campaign on Saturday, the drama hasn’t stopped when it comes to Derby County.

After a run of poor results in the final few months of the season, the Rams dropped perilously close to the relegation zone but they were spared thanks to a final day draw against Sheffield Wednesday, which sent the Owls packing to League One.

A potential points deduction though has threatened to ruin everything, with reports suggesting that the EFL have won their appeal against the club over financial issues and that they could still be relegated from the Championship.

That’s not likely to happen according to Alan Nixon though, who believes any points deductions will be next season so that’s at least some reprieve for the club.

There’s also the issue of a takeover that needs sorting out, with Spanish businessman Erik Alonso apparently waiting in the wings to complete the deal.

That hasn’t been straight-forward either though, with Alonso apparently not responding to EFL requests that he makes a Β£35 million deposit into a British bank account to provide proof of funds for the takeover.

Quiz: Did these 18 players make more than 100 Derby County appearances?

Did Richard Keogh make more than 100 appearances for Derby County?

Alonso has been pretty quiet since the Rams’ game against Wednesday on Saturday, but he was back on social media which appeared to show him in a luxury house – although that has now been debunked as a video that was posted over a year ago by someone else.

Understandably Derby fans are asking for answers and they’ve been tweeting him after his re-appearance on social media as they fear for the future of their club.
