David Prutton has suggested that the English football season, and Leeds United's promotion push, could be impacted by the success of the resumption of the 2019/20 campaign in Germany.

It was reported this week that plans are in place for the football season to resume in Germany on the 9th of May.

The majority of professional leagues around the world have been suspended for some time now and question marks remain over if, how, and when the 2019/20 campaign will be concluded.

The EFL was postponed more than a month ago, leaving Leeds United top of the Championship with nine games still to play.

Few sides will be more determined for the season to be completed in its entirety than the Whites, who look on course to end their 16-year absence from the Premier League this term.

In his column for the Yorkshire Evening Post, Prutton has indicated that the success in Germany could impact the English season.

He said: "We will wait with bated breath and see what happens with Germany who are intending to resume on May 9.

"If that happens in the way they want it to happen then it might reflect on how we go about things in England."

You feel Germany are someway ahead of us, however, as players returned to training back at the start of April.

As things stand, the EFL has told clubs training cannot resume until the 16th of May, which puts them around a month behind German sides.

Has Kalvin Phillips done these 12 things at Leeds United? Have a go now!

The Verdict

Prutton is bang on here. Germany looks set to be the first of the European footballing superpowers to resume its season and you'd imagine all leagues around the world will be watching to see how they get on.

If they have success, it should pave the way for others to follow suit and may mean Leeds get a chance to get their promotion push back on track.

However, if they face serious issues it could spell trouble for the EFL season.
