Virgil Gomis had been one of the outstanding players for Nottingham Forest's youth sides over the years, so there has always been an interest from the fans in how his development is going.

Given the quality the Reds have in the first-team, it was always going to be unlikely that the 20-year-old would force his way into Sabri Lamouchi's plans for this season.

Instead, he would have to go out on loan to play regularly and he would need to show in the lower leagues that he warranted a chance at the City Ground.

So, Gomis completed a move to Macclesfield in the summer but unfortunately for the player it's a transfer that just has not worked out at all.

Firstly, the well-documented off-field issues that have engulfed the League Two club means that the forward is stepping into a very challenging environment and that can't be easy as he looks to settle and prove his worth.

And, the youngster has also struggled to get the game time that he would have been desperate for.

Whilst he has made 11 league appearances, the majority of those have come from the bench and he has not featured in a league game for the past five weeks, which includes failing to make the squad in recent weeks.

As well as that, Gomis has just two goals to his name, in the League Cup and EFL Trophy, with the last of those coming in early September.

Therefore, it will be interesting to see what happens with the Forest player next but it's pretty clear that this loan hasn't gone the way many had hoped.
