Vincent Kompany has revealed the potential of Burnley is why he chose to join them over other offers he had.

The Manchester City legend was named as Sean Dyche's permanent successor this afternoon and he will have a tough job on his hands as he looks to guide the Clarets back to the Premier League at the first attempt next season.

Bringing in the 36-year-old, who had previously been in charge of Anderlecht, was considered a coup for Burnley, with Kompany's name having been linked with several top-flight vacancies in recent weeks.

However, speaking to the club's media, the former centre-back explained why he made the decision to continue his managerial career at Turf Moor.

"It’s about where you want the club to go and where you want the team to go as well. I only see potential at Burnley, and that’s exciting for me.

"When I laid out all of the offers on the table, some were perhaps more appealing in terms of name and what they would represent to the wider public, but I had a chance to look in great depth into everything that Burnley is. I looked at what Burnley wanted to achieve and I’m not saying it’s easy, but I saw a path which was different than that at other places."

The verdict

This is a very exciting period for Burnley and fans will be excited at how Kompany came across here because he speaks well and is clearly very ambitious.

The club are looking to go in a different direction under Kompany and if the new boss is backed he should be able to deliver a different style of play that will hopefully bring results.

So, it's now down to the board to do all they can to get the players in ahead of what they want to be a successful spell under Kompany.
