Burnley are keen to sign Anderlecht goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, a report from The Burnley Express has claimed.

Having joined Anderlecht side back in the summer of 2020, Verbruggen has so far made seven senior appearances for the club.

All of those outings came when recently appointed Burnley manager Vincent Kompany was in chare of the Belgian outfit.

Now it seems as though Kompany is keen to secure a reunion with the 19-year-old at Turf Moor for the coming campaign, and beyond.

According to this latest update, Burnley are now keen to sign Verbruggen, with coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar, who followed Kompany to Lancashire, said to be keen to work with the teenager again.

As things stand, there are three years remaining on Verbruggen's contract with Anderlecht, securing his future with the club until the end of the 2024/25 season.

It is thought that the goalkeeper will cost more than the €3-3.5million Burnley apparently paid to sign midfielder Josh Cullen from Anderlecht earlier in the summer transfer window.

The Verdict

This could be a potentially useful deal for Burnley in the long term.

Given Verbruggen has only ever made seven senior appearances for Anderlecht, it does seem as though it would be a big ask for him to come in as the Clarets' first choice 'keeper immediately.

However, the fact he has already played at the level he has, does suggest that Verbruggen has the potential to go a long way in his career, and play at the top in the future.

As a result, it could be important for Burnley to get this signing made swiftly now, before another beats them to it, and causes them to miss out on a rather exciting opportunity while it is more feasible.
