Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has revealed that Arijanet Muric, Manuel Benson and Jay Rodriguez are all closing in on a return to action.
This particular trio were unavailable for selection last night as the Clarets hosted Ipswich Town in the FA Cup at Turf Moor.
In the absence of these three players, Burnley booked their place in the fourth round of the competition thanks to a brace from Nathan Tella.
Tella opened the scoring in the first-half before Ipswich levelled proceedings via an effort from George Hirst.
With the game seemingly set to head to extra time, the Burnley loanee netted the winner for his side in stoppage-time.
Muric and Rodriguez did not make the trip to Carrow Road last weekend after picking up minor knocks while Benson recently sustained an ankle injury.
With Burnley set to face Preston North End on Saturday, there is a possibility that Muric, Rodriguez and Benson could be included in the club's match-day squad for this fixture.
Making reference to this trio in an interview with LancsLive following Burnley's meeting with Ipswich, Kompany said: "They are close, we will see and it will be day by day but they are close."
The Verdict
This is an encouraging update for Burnley as Muric, Rodriguez and Benson have all managed to produce impressive performances for the club this season and thus being able to call upon their services again will be a boost.
Muric has managed to claim a respectable total of 10 clean-sheets in the Championship this season and will be keen to add to this tally over the course of the coming months.
Rodriguez meanwhile has scored nine goals for the Clarets at this level in the current term and has also chipped in with two assists.
As for Benson, he has proved to be a great addition to Burnley's squad this season.
Since sealing a move to Turf Moor last year from Royal Antwerp, the 25-year-old has provided 11 direct goal contributions in the Championship.
If these three players are able to deliver the goods on a consistent basis between now and the end of the term, they could potentially help Burnley in their quest to win the Championship title.
