Villa takeover nearing completion as talks continue

According to BBC Sport, Chinese businessman Tony Xia is to complete his £76 million takeover of Aston Villa after weeks of talks.

The sale is expected to be confirmed on Monday after passing the fit and proper owners test run by the Premier League and FA.

The Football League has sanctioned it as he has sufficient funds and Xia is expected to fly in and complete the deal, finishing the talks with Football League chief Shaun Harvey. After Xia meets Harvey he will then go down to Villa Park to meet key staff and players as he gets his project underway.

After meeting with former owner Randy Lerner, who has finally sold the club after months of trying, the club will finally be his and Villa can start splashing the cash on players as they look for an instant return to the Premier League.

For new manager Roberto Di Matteo there may be up to £35 million available for new players after they have finished selling the current players who want to move away.

Di Matteo is expected to make the final decision over the players he wants to get rid of, however,  he won’t make any judgement until he meets his players face to face.
