Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has said he needs to add 'three or four' players with real quality to his squad for next season.

In a report by the Express and Star, Bruce has spoken about his meeting with Villa owner Tony Xia and outlined his plans to delve into the transfer market again in the summer window, with three or four top quality players top of his wish list.

Bruce said“I have a nucleus of a very decent squad for the Championship. I’d like two, three or four real bits of quality – lads who will make a huge difference. I think this is what this club demands."

“We need real bits of quality. It’s very difficult to play here with the expectation so we need players who can handle that. That usually points to Premier League quality, international quality – that for me, going-forward, is the most difficult part because obviously they are expensive. We have to cut our cloth.”

Villa fans will be waiting in anticipation to see just who the club goes to sign in the summer, following two consecutive windows of heavy spending. The club spent over £50m in the summer when Roberto Di Matteo took over, but failed to get going and the Italian ultimately lost his job.

Bruce himself added Championship quality in January, with the likes of Henri Lansbury and Conor Hourihane just two of the names to join the ranks at Villa Park.
