Championship side Aston Villa have turned down a €6 million bid from Sevilla for defender Jordan Amavi, reports Spanish newspaper Marca (via The Birmingham Mail).
The 23-year-old moved to Villa Park back in 2015 after an impressive spell in Ligue 1 with Nice, but has struggled to translate his obvious talent and potential into the claret and blue of Villa in the past few seasons.
The former France Under-21 international managed just ten Premier League appearances back in 2015/16, with a nasty knee injury ending his campaign in November, while last term saw him appear 34 times for the Villans in the Championship, contributing just one assist from full-back.
Clearly, the Villa Park faithful haven’t seen the best of Amavi during his time in the Midlands, and it remains to be seen whether they will do at all as reports earlier this month suggested that the Frenchman was transfer-listed by the club, and interest has thus been rife in his services.
In fact, recent reports in Spain suggest that La Liga outfit Sevilla have had a €6 million (£5.3 million) bid rejected by the Villa hierarchy, with it reported that the Championship side are holding out for at least the £9 million they spent on Amavi two years ago.
And with former club Nice, as well as Italian outfit Sampdoria and Ligue 1 giants Marseille, also reported to be in the chase, they may well get that price, as there’s little doubt that Amavi has the potential to be a quality full-back, it just needs fulfilling.
But it doesn’t look like the £8.5 million-rated (as per Transfermarkt) star’s talent will be fulfilled at Villa Park.
