Aston Villa will have to stump up £12 million to sign Robert Snodgrass on a permanent deal from West Ham, according to reliable West Ham outlet Claret&Hugh.

Would spending £12m on the 30-year-old be a wise move for the Villans? Or is it too much?

We discuss...

Ben Barkworth

£12m for Snodgrass is slightly steep, but worth it because of his creative contribution this season.

His ability from set pieces is top quality and he could play a key role in the Championship or the Premier League next season depending on where Villa find themselves.

Jay Williams

Robert Snodgrass is not worth £12m, even in today's market. Aston Villa will be tempted to leave this deal with Snodgrass recently losing form and given the fact that he is now in his 30's.

This would leave West Ham with an unwanted player so I would not be surprised if Villa can negotiate the price down to about £8m this summer, which is more reasonable.

George Dagless

Being honest, Villa can't pay this.

There might be a chance if they got promoted but it's a lot of money on one player when FFP is still an important factor in the way they are operating.

I like Snodgrass as a player and think he is Premier League class but it might not be financially sound for Villa to spend this much.

Alfie Burns

If Villa are back in the Premier League, Snodgrass is worth every penny of £12m.

However, if they’re still a Championship outfit, I can’t see the Scot returning at that price.

Snodgrass has been terrific for Villa this year, and the club’s supporters will be praying that Tony Xia finds the money to seal a permanent transfer.

Gary Hutchinson

£12m? No thank you.

He's a good player at Championship level, but £12m isn't a Championship fee, it's a top flight fee and it'll buy you much more than a failed West Ham star.

Aston Villa will want their heads testing if they throw this sort of money at Snodgrass.
