Midlands rivals Aston Villa and Wolves are both interested in signing soon to be out of contract Barnsley midfielder Josh Scowen, according to a report in the Sun

The midfielder is not signing a new deal at Oakwell, and his form for the Reds last year has put him firmly in the shop window for potential new clubs, and it now appears that both Wolves and Villa fancy signing Scowen.

However, both clubs could face competition from London clubs Brentford and Fulham, who have both also reportedly declared their interest in signing the Barnsley man.

Scowen has enjoyed an excellent rise in the game following his move to Barnsley from Wycombe, when he signed as a relative unknown in a low budget deal. However, his form and ability to play in numerous positions across the midfield has led to him becoming on of the star men for the Reds, and his loss will be a big blow to the Yorkshire club.

Scowen played a vital role for Barnsley last season as they won promotion from League One back to the Championship, and has continued his good form to impress a whole host of clubs in the second tier.

Barnsley fans, will Scowen be a loss? Wolves and Villa fans, would this be a good signing? Let us know in the comments!
