Leeds United director of football Victor Orta has reportedly been in constant contact with goalkeeper Kiko Casilla, who is considering leaving the Yorkshire club this summer.

The 33-year-old is currently serving an eight-match ban after he was found guilty for using racially offensive language by the FA earlier this year.

20-year-old Illan Meslier has stepped up into the first team and produced some impressive performances, keeping clean sheets in both of his Championship appearances.

Casilla has made some crucial mistakes this term and you feel if the Frenchman continues to impress, Marcelo Bielsa will have a real selection dilemma on his hands.

According to Football Insider, Casilla is considering leaving Elland Road this summer in order to pursue a move back to Spain.

The Spaniard is thought to be concerned that the damage to his reputation following his racism is irreparable.

The report claims that Orta has been in constant contact with the 33-year-old, who has returned to his homeland with permission from the club, and has been making it clear to him that he still has a big role to play at Elland Road.

Casilla was linked with a move back to Spain last summer but stayed at the Yorkshire club and has appeared 37 times this term – helping Leeds to climb to the top of the Championship.

The Verdict

You could understand Casilla considering a move back to Spain given his ban and the impressive performances of Meslier.

That said, Leeds look on course to secure promotion to the Premier League this term and you'd imagine the 33-year-old will want to try and fight for a place in Bielsa's starting XI for that.

It is going to be interesting to see how the situation plays out this summer.
