Sunderland picked up an invaluable three points in their hunt for automatic promotion, defeating AFC Wimbledon by a goal to nil at the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon.

The Black Cats were hoping to right their wrongs and get back to winning ways, after a run of just one win in their last five league games had halted their assault on the top two in recent weeks, with the North East club falling down to 5th in the league table.

But an Aiden McGeady second half strike was enough for Jack Ross' men in the end, on a day where they eased past Wally Downes' Wimbledon without really getting out of first gear.

It was a day full of some positives however, with January signing Lewis Morgan given his first start in a Sunderland shirt since arriving from Celtic on deadline day.
