‘Very happy with this’ – Many Shrewsbury Town fans react as club seal another summer signing

Shrewsbury Town have announced the signing of Exeter City forward Ryan Bowman.

The 29-year-old, who previously played for Torquay United, Gateshead and Scottish Premiership side Motherwell before joining the Grecians in 2019, scored 14 goals for the League Two side last season and has secured himself a move to the third tier after consistently impressing since his return to England.

Bowman was initially Jayden Stockley’s replacement, who had climbed up to the Championship with Preston North End with his impressive goalscoring record and despite not being able to match his predecessor’s remarkable goal record, the forward has been a key player at St James Park and will be sorely missed by manager Matt Taylor.

This is the second piece of bad news for Taylor today, with Hull City announcing the signing of Randell Williams earlier this afternoon after he turned down the opportunity to stay with the League Two club – and now Exeter fans will also need to contend with the loss of a reliable scorer.

For Shrewsbury fans, it’s their second signing of the day after Elliott Bennett joined the club on a one-year deal. 28-year-old Luke Leahy and former Everton centre half Matthew Pennington have also signed for Steve Cotterill’s side this summer.

Now the Shrews have recruited Bowman, what do some of their make of this signing? Was it a wise move to make in their eyes? Let’s take a look.
