‘Very good signing’ – These Leeds United fans react to transfer rumour

Leeds United are reportedly interested in a move for Burnley centre-back Ben Gibson.

Leeds sold central defender Pontus Jansson to Brentford earlier this month but no replacement has yet arrived at Elland Road.

It appears that could be about to change as, according to The Northern Echo, Leeds are one of a number of sides interested in signing Gibson.

The report suggests that Burnley are open to letting the 26-year-old leave this summer after just one season at the club.

Leeds are understood to face some serious competition for the Englishman, with fellow Championship club Middlesbrough and Premier League sides Newcastle United, Norwich City, Sheffield United and Aston Villa all thought to be keen.

Gibson arrived at Turf Moor last summer for a reported club-record fee of £15 million but the defender has struggled to make an impact, making just five appearances for the Clarets.

Prior to joining Burnley, however, the defender was a mainstay for Boro, making over 200 appearances for the club in both the Championship and Premier League.

It seems Leeds may be considering Gibson for the centre-back position left vacant by Jansson, however, the links to the 26-year-old have had a mixed response from fans of the Yorkshire club.
