Aston Villa have reportedly joined West Bromwich Albion in the race to land AFC Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings.

Dean Smith's men have struggled defensively this season, having conceded a disappointing 43 goals in the Championship, and have already added Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Kortney Hause to their ranks this month.

Mings has struggled for minutes under Eddie Howe for the Cherries this term - the 25-year old has made just two starts in the Premier League, and has started just sixteen times for the South Coast club since his £8 million move from Ipswich in 2015.

With the Cherries also said to be closing in on the signing of Brentford's Chris Mepham, Mings looks likely to depart the Vitality Stadium on loan in January, with Dean Smith on red alert.

Able to play as a centre-half or at left-back, Mings could be a really useful option for Villa, who have struggled in terms of squad depth this season.
