Bolton Wanderers caretaker manager Jimmy Phillips will be preparing his side for the trip to Gillingham in League One this weekend, with the huge cloud of Administration lifted from the club following the takeover by Football Ventures (White) Limited, finally being confirmed this week.

Strengthening the Trotters squad is a priority with the return of winger Will Buckley on the cards after the 29-year-old continued to train with the squad over the last few weeks, as reported in the Bolton News.

So would Buckley be a good addition to the Bolton first-team squad if a deal can be struck?

We discuss........

Ned Holmes

“Yes, I think so. Buckley knows the club, having spent the two previous seasons at the Macron Stadium, so he should be able to settle in fairly quickly.

“Bolton’s squad is desperately thin following their turbulent time recently, so it is a boost that they can add more players to it now the takeover has been completed.

“They’re particularly short of options on the wing, with only three out-and-out wide players in the squad, so Buckley will be a well-needed addition.

“The Trotters have got a really young squad and so adding a 29-year-old with more than 300 appearances in English football like Buckley should bring some experience to the dressing room.”

Dean Cooke

"Very good addition for League One level, he'd be a massive bonus to their side and could kick start the build of a good team.

"Having played for the club last season, he wouldn't require a settling in period and that would help the future manager as well.

"At League One level, Buckley could still do be a very capable player, it'll be interesting to see whether he's up for a challenge, but his work ethic is unquestionable."

Josh Cole

“This could turn out to be a shrewd signing by Bolton if they can get a deal over the line in the coming days.

“Having represented the Trotters during the previous campaign, the winger should be able to settle in at the University of Bolton Stadium immediately.

“Although Buckley may take a few weeks to get up to speed in terms of fitness since he hasn’t been able to partake in pre-season, it could be worth Bolton taking a risk on him.

“With the Trotters having to field academy graduates because of the departure of a plethora of senior players, Buckley could bring some much-needed experience to their side which in turn may help the club in their bid to avoid relegation this season.”
