Sunderland's quest to sign a striker looks like it will be heading into deadline day, with Ched Evans emerging as the latest man being rumoured with a move to the Stadium of Light.

BBC Sheffield's Andy Giddings broke the news on Twitter, and it's sure to be a frantic deadline day for Sunderland as they look to sign a striker to help fire them to promotion.

Jack Ross will be eager to add some depth to his striking options, after Josh Maja left the club to join French side Bordeaux earlier this month.

There is no doubting that Evans, 30, is a proven goalscorer, but he has had well publicised criticism over incidents earlier in his career, so it will be interesting to see whether the Black Cats will submit a formal offer for the striker.

It's fair to say that Evans' potential arrival was met with a mixed reaction from Sunderland supporters.
