Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers are weighing-up a £7 million bid for Sunderland midfielder Paddy McNair, according to The Daily Mail.
The versatile performer is destined to depart the Stadium of Light this summer and the 23-year-old is now firmly on Wolves’ radar as they look to strengthen ahead of their first campaign back in the top division.
Signing him won’t be straight forward, however, with Brighton and Hove Albion also showing interest in the ex-Manchester United man who was a standout performer for the Black Cats last season despite their relegation to League One.
McNair is capable of playing anywhere across the back four or in the middle of the park and he finished the 2017/18 campaign with a flourish, netting four goals in Sunderland’s final seven games.
Given Wolves’ ambitions to challenge at the top end of the Premier League in future years they could have the edge on the Seagulls when it comes to securing McNair’s signature but it does look as though they will need to act swiftly.
McNair was clearly one of Sunderland’s better players last season and it isn’t difficult to figure out why the interest is so high.
The Northern Ireland international boasts versatility to play in a number of positions and he would enhance Wolves’ squad without any doubt.
The speculation surrounding McNair’s future now looks set to intensify and it remains to be seen which Premier League club will secure his services.
