Martyn Waghorn's move from Ipswich Town to Derby County is close to completion, according to reports.

According to The Mirror's Live Transfer Blog [Sunday 29th July, 19:59], Ipswich will sanction Waghorn's move to Derby once they secure a replacement.

The Tractor Boys have already snapped up Ellis Harrison from Bristol Rovers this summer but they want another striker, with Tom Bradshaw of Barnsley an option.

Accrington Stanley forward Kayden Jackson could be another possibility for Paul Hurst's side.

Waghorn scored 16 goals and provided 11 assists for Ipswich last season after moving to the club from Rangers but he is keen on working with Frank Lampard at Derby.

The Rams have already signed Jack Marriott, who scored 33 goals for Peterborough United last season, and Lampard wants Waghorn to compete with the 23-year-old up top.

Derby are set to pay a fee of £4m up front with add-ons for the 28-year-old.

The Verdict

Although the arrivals of Marriott and Waghorn will have to be balanced by the inevitable departure of Vydra, this is still good business by Derby.

Marriott is young and hungry and he will be hoping to continue scoring goals, while Waghorn is more experienced and a proven Championship performer.

These two could form a lethal partnership up front for the Rams.
