Doncaster Rovers have confirmed they have completed the signing of Arsenal's Ben Sheaf on a six-month loan deal.

The 21-year-old can play in defence or midfield, and he becomes Darren Moore's first signing since his appointment as Rovers' boss earlier this week.

Doncaster first showed an interest in the versatile player last January, and they have carried this through into the summer in order to get a deal over the line.

It is understood that Rovers saw off interest from a host of EFL clubs to land the youngster who was a regular for Arsenal's Under-23 side last term.

Sheaf has been capped by England at Under-16 and Under-18 level, but his only previous senior experience came during a loan spell at Stevenage during the second half of the 2017/18 season.

The defensive midfielder has become Rovers' fourth signing of the summer in total, following the additions of full-backs Brad Halliday and Reece James and midfielder Madger Gomes.

The Verdict

This looks to be a promising move for all concerned.

Rovers will be adding an exciting, young player to their ranks, while Sheaf now has an opportunity to establish himself in a senior side in order to take his career to the next level.

Sheaf's versatility is one of his greatest strengths. He can play across both the midfield and defence, and this could become an invaluable tool for Moore over the course of a long season.

This news rounds off a successful week for Doncaster following Moore's appointment. Rovers now look well-equipped to kick on next season, rather than let Grant McCann's departure set them back.
