Veljko Paunovic issues Reading transfer warning that may worry some supporters

Veljko Paunovic has hinted that Reading could be forced into further sales as the summer transfer window unfolds.

The Royals are facing a pivotal summer following the departure of two high-profile players in Michael Olise and Omar Richards who left for new challenges at Crystal Palace and Bayern Munich respectively.

With a transfer embargo hanging over their heads it means that signing new players could be a tricky task, especially with the new season just a matter of weeks away.

Paunovic will be hopeful of a decent season this term, but admitted that the shape of his squad could get worse before it gets better as their financial situation tightens its grip.

Speaking to Berkshire Live about the prospect of further departures, Paunovic said: “It’s possible. I don’t want to be confident about it but I am aware it can happen. We’ll see what the market brings in the next couple of weeks.

“We can only focus on what we can control and we’ll work with that.

“If something happens, it’ll probably help the other side of the game (finances) but we have to be ready and given information and guidance.”

Can you name each of these 17 ex-Reading players just by looking at these 3 clues?

The verdict

Reading fans will surely be hoping that this isn’t the case.

The Royals have already lost two key players this summer and will be hoping that they won’t be losing any more.

It’s going to be a competitive campaign in the Championship and if Veljko Paunovic’s side don’t strengthen their squad then they might find themselves in a spot of bother.

The coming weeks are going to be pivotal for Reading and hopefully they can get it right.
