Vaughan in, £1.35m-rated star out: Is this really the best Nottingham Forest XI so far this season?

It’s been a very up and down start to the season for Nottingham Forest but they’ll certainly be feeling more optimistic about the year than they did last campaign.

The men from the City Ground look to be a far better side than the one that nearly got relegated last year and if they can just add some consistency to their game, they’ll be absolutely in contention for the play-offs.

That, then, is the challenge for Mark Warburton and his squad once this international break has come to an end and, in the meantime, we’ve been considering who his best XI has been so far this season.

Using whoscored’s ratings, we find a fairly unsurprising XI comes about though there could be an argument that David Vaughan’s inclusion in midfield – ahead of Liam Bridcutt – is a bit of a shock.

Bridcutt, valued at £1.35m by transfermarkt, has been impressive for Forest since moving from Leeds but he does not make the cut here.

Instead, it’s the experienced veteran Vaughan that gets in the side and it’ll be interesting to see if that has any impact on future Forest sides.

Here, then, is the best performing Reds XI so far this season:
