Valerien Ismael shares Daryl Dike update ahead of West Brom’s upcoming clash with QPR

West Bromwich Albion head coach Valerien Ismael has revealed that Daryl Dike is currently training with his team-mates with the view to participating in the club’s clash with Queens Park Rangers this weekend.

The forward joined the Baggies earlier this month after being heavily linked with a switch to The Hawthorns earlier this season.

Signed for a fee believed to be in excess of £7m, Dike will be hoping to prove his worth by regularly finding the back of the net in the Championship.

Whilst the Baggies’ recent FA Cup clash with Brighton & Hove Albion came too soon for Dike, he is now starting to build up his fitness and thus could be in line to make his debut on Saturday.

Having played 19 games at this level for Barnsley last season, the forward knows exactly what it takes to compete at this level and thus it may not take him too long to adapt to life at West Brom.

Ahead of the club’s meeting with the R’s, Ismael has shared an update on Dike.

Speaking to the Express & Star about the forward, the Baggies boss said: “At the minute Daryl Dike is on his own programme – we have a four-week plan for him.

“The first week he had been doing individual training with our sports science department to make sure that he had a good build-up.

“This week he is training with the team with the purpose of building him up for the game at QPR.

“He’s at a good level.

“He played with consistency last year and last season.

“But he’ll need two or three weeks to get at a better level to be able to compete.”

The Verdict

Providing that Dike is able to emerge unscathed from the club’s training sessions this week, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if he is handed the opportunity to lead the line at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium this weekend.

The forward illustrated during his loan spell at Barnsley that he is capable of causing issues for Championship defences as he scored nine goals at this level.

Having now reunited with Ismael at West Brom, Dike will be determined to take his game to new heights in the coming months.

If the forward is able to hit the ground running for his new club, he could help the Baggies keep in touch with promotion rivals AFC Bournemouth and Fulham.
