West Bromwich Albion boss Valerien Ismael has urged caution in the transfer market as the Baggies weigh up further additions, during a recent interview that he gave to Birmingham Live.

Albion have already been busy in the current transfer window, with the club having secured the signings of Alex Mowatt and Matt Clarke from Barnsley and Brighton and Hove Albion respectively, with more expected to be on the way.

Meanwhile the futures of Matheus Pereira and Sam Johnstone also continue to dominate the headlines, with the Baggies seemingly resigned to losing their two key men for the right price.

However despite having only signed two players so far, Ismael was quick to stress that the club must show patience as he aims to run the rule over some of their younger players during the close season:

"We will see, I think at the moment I said that the good thing is our young players are doing well and they have given us time.

"There is no rush on the transfer market, we want to see the young players and [at Watford] it was a very important game for us.

"We needed to assess the players but we saw that the performance was there. They understood the principle and I think it is better for us if we can push some young players from the academy.

"We will do it if we have the possibility and if the performance and commitment is there we will do it. Otherwise for sure we will show what we can do in the transfer market but at the minute there is no rush.

"We are working behind the scenes to prepare. We prepare a lot of things already but we have no rush because of the good performance from the young players."

West Brom have seen themselves linked with a move for former Sheffield Wednesday player Adam Reach in more recent times, whilst various other names have been mentioned as potential arrivals.

The Baggies get their Sky Bet Championship season underway on Friday 6th August as they travel to Bournemouth to take on the Cherries at the Vitality Stadium in what is the campaign's curtain raiser.

The Verdict

Ismael inherited what is a very strong squad and I think that is something that he clearly recognises as he assesses the areas that the club needs to improve in.

There is an obvious clamour from the supporters for new additions but so far I think the business that they have conducted has been pretty shrewd.

Mowatt will bring a real level of creativity to the table whilst Clarke knows the division like the back of his hand after two seasons in quick succession with Derby County.

I certainly feel that the club needs a new striker and I think that will be their next port of call as they aim to bring in a few extra bodies before the window slams shut.
