Middlesbrough have made Birmingham City striker Isaac Vassell a transfer window target, but have seen their offer rejected, as reported by journalist Alan Nixon.

It's reported that Tony Pulis' side have put a bid in for the 25-year-old, but that it was rejected for being a 'low offer', despite the fact the 25-year-old has only appeared twice for the Blues this season.

Boro are hunting a play-off spot in the top flight, but struggled to put League two Newport to the sword yesterday, drawing 1-1 in the FA Cup. Daniel Ayala scored their only goal of the game, despite forwards Ashley Fletcher and Britt Assombalonga being on the pitch.

The struggles in front of goal have perhaps characterised their season and has seen them slip from being early table-toppers to fifth in the table, ten points shy of Leeds United.

They've clearly now identified Vassell as one of the players they feel can add to their current offering, despite his limited game time and Championship exposure.

Is it a good deal? Would they be wise to make the bid bigger, or just to steer clear? Our team of Football League observers have their say.

George Harbey

"I think Vassell would be a great signing for Boro.

"He hasn’t played an awful lot of games over the last year, so that’s bound to be a risk, but when he’s back to full fitness, he’s a quality player.

"Boro need some pace and power in attack and he’d certainly provide that."

Gary Hutchinson

"Pure folly and utterly pointless.

"What will he bring to Boro right now that the likes of Assombalonga and Fletcher won't?

"I can't understand it at all.

"Does Pulis truly know what he's doing at the Riverside? I'm not convinced."

Lee Connor

"I've not got much to say really, I just don't quite understand this one.

"Vassell has hardly done anything at Birmingham as far as I know, and I'm sure he's only just coming back from  big injury.

"Bizarre if you ask me this one, bizarre, and a bit pointless".
