It was an afternoon to forget for Phil Parkinson in his first game in charge of Sunderland in League One, as they were beaten by a goal to nil against Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park.

But the newly-appointed boss revealed after the game that Charlie Wyke is set for a spell on the sidelines with an ankle ligament injury that he picked up midway through the contest against the Chairboys.

Wyke hasn't been at his best so far this season for the Black Cats, scoring just once in his nine league appearances to date.

It means that Marc McNulty and Will Grigg are likely to be pushing for a starting spot in Parkinson's side in the coming weeks as they look to find some form in front of goal themselves.

Sunderland now sit 10th in the League One table after the defeat to Gareth Ainsworth's side, and they'll be hoping to get back to winning ways on Tuesday when they take on Tranmere Rovers.

Plenty of Sunderland fans took to Twitter following the news of Wyke's injury.
