Derby County defender Curtis Davies has delivered his verdict on Tuesday night's defeat to Huddersfield Town.

It's been a woeful start to the season for the Rams, which was made worse last night as Phillip Cocu's side lost out to Huddersfield.

Juninho Bacuna struck the game's only goal on 53 minutes, with Derby unable to respond despite Duane Holmes forcing a good save from Ben Hamer and Matt Clarke hitting the post with a header.

In wake of that defeat in West Yorkshire, Davies, who captained Derby in the absence of Wayne Rooney, delivered his verdict on social media.

Taking to Twitter, the experienced centre-back wrote:

It stands at five defeats in six fixtures for Derby in the Championship, with Cocu's side victorious on only one occasion (Norwich City away).

This Friday they go up against Nottingham Forest in an East Midland derby.

Like the Rams, Forest have started sluggishly. After four straight defeats Chris Hughton replaced Sabri Lamouchi as the club's boss, with the former Newcastle and Brighton manager picking up four points in the last two fixtures.

That leaves Forest a point ahead of Derby in the table.

The Verdict

This is a tough period for Derby. Cocu's side are bang out of form and one of their biggest games of the season is just around the corner.

There were a few positives to take from the defeat at Huddersfield, but not enough from the second-half.

It's important that senior players like Davies step up now and motivate the side to dust themselves down. The turnaround to Friday is a short one and a victory at Forest could get the Rams going.

A tough ask, but not out of question.
