Portsmouth's players are likely undergo testing tomorrow after their recent time off, and the aim is to continue first-team training for the remainder of this week providing everyone is healthy.

A statement from the EFL last week confirmed that all clubs in the Premier League, the EFL and the WSL have collectively agreed to postpone the professional game in England until April 3rd at the earliest.

This includes all matches in the Championship, League One and League Two, as well as all Academy and youth team fixtures.

According to BBC Solent journalist Andrew Moon, the Portsmouth players were given a day off on Monday, ahead of routine testing at the training ground on Tuesday.

QUIZ: Can you name these 11 Portsmouth flops?

Action has been taken by Pompey as Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has undergone a mandatory period of self-isolation, and the fear is that he came into contact with Portsmouth's squad and backroom staff two weeks ago during the FA Cup fifth round tie between the teams at Fratton Park.

However, Moon reports that the Portsmouth first-team squad appear healthy, and should nothing get flagged up in testing, the team should resume training as normal for the remainder of the week.

Doubts also remain about Pompey's participation in the EFL Trophy final against Salford at Wembley on April 5th. As it stands, the event has yet to be postponed, although it is likely to be the case.

As it stands, Portsmouth fans have purchased more than 50,000 tickets for the final.

The Verdict

The threat of this outbreak has affected football like we have not seen in many years.

Football fans and players alike will be frustrated at the suspended fixtures, but it remains the priority for all that the spread of the disease is kept under control so things can return to normal sooner rather than later.

As it stands, we don't know if or when the regular football season will resume in time for it to be completed, but that is secondary at this stage.
