Albert Adomah's move to Middlesbrough from Aston Villa fell through with Boro unwilling to sign the player on a permanent deal.

The winger enjoyed a sensational season with Villa in the previous campaign, scoring 14 league goals and establishing himself as a key player in the side that made the play-off final.

However, with Yannick Bolasie and Anwar El Ghazi joining the West Midlands side, it was revealed that manager Steve Bruce was prepared to let Adomah go.

And, Boro made a late move to secure a deal for the 30-year old that would see him return to the Riverside.

Yet, as the 5pm deadline passed it became clear that a move up north would not be materialising for the former Bristol City man.

The Birmingham Mail have shed some light on that, revealing that the two clubs could not agree a deal for the player.

They state that Boro wanted to sign Adomah only on a loan deal, whereas Villa were adamant it should be made permanent when the January window opens.

The Verdict

This proves why it's so dangerous for clubs to leave their deal until the last minute as any issue can drag things out and mean the deal is off.

It will be a blow for Adomah as he knows that he won't be in Bruce's first-team plans and it will be tough for him after the season he had.

Ultimately though, he is a Villa player and has the ability to force his way into the team.
