Sunderland owner Stewart Donald has provided an update on Papy Djilobodji and Didier Ndong, with the pair determined to leave the Black Cats.

Many thought the duo, who were signed when the club were in the Premier League, would leave following Sunderland's relegation to League One.

Yet, no deal was finalised and the pair remain Sunderland players. Ndong is still AWOL, whilst Djilobodji missed all of pre-season after not turning up.

And, the Sunderland Echo reveal how Donald gave TalkSPORT an update on the pair, with the owner seeking legal advice on whether he can sack the players:

"I’m certain we are allowed to fine them for their behaviour, but the question is whether they have done enough to be in breach of their contracts to terminate their contracts and pursue them for wilfully devaluing themselves. That is the question."

He also gave an update of a recent conversation with former Chelsea man Djilobodji, who claimed he will never be in the city again:

"The bottom line is, Didier Ndong has shown no interest in returning to the football club whatsoever – we don’t even know where he is. Papy has returned but in his last conversation said ‘you’ll never see me in Sunderland again’."

The Verdict

You have to feel sorry for the current Sunderland regime and the fans that they are having to deal with this from two professional footballers.

The way they have behaved has been embarrassing and Sunderland are well within their rights not to pay them.

They will hope that they have done enough to warrant the club sacking them, which would save them a fortune in wages.
