Ryan Leonard’s move from Sheffield United to Millwall is going to depend on the Blades adding to their playing squad before tomorrow’s transfer deadline.

During his time at Bramall Lane, Leonard has found himself on the fringe of Chris Wilder’s squad, with Millwall showing an interest in the midfielder at this late stage of the summer transfer window.

However, Andy Giddings has been reporting from Wilder’s press conference, confirming that a move will only materialise if Sheffield United begin to land some of their own transfer targets in the next 24 hours.

Leonard was brought to Bramall Lane last January, but he has failed to have a major impact in South Yorkshire.

The 26-year-old has made 17 appearances across all competitions for the Blades, with four of those coming so far this season.

Whilst Leonard could still be one player leaving Bramall Lane in the next 24 hours, Wilder is chasing a number of his own targets.

Further talks were expected between Sheffield United and Aston Villa this week, with Wilder desperate to add Scott Hogan to his strikeforce for the remainder of the Championship season.

The Sheffield Star’s report also credits Wilder with an interest in Middlesbrough’s Marvin Johnson.

The Verdict

It isn’t really a surprise to learn that Leonard’s exit is waiting on Wilder strengthening his own squad, as he will not want Sheffield United to be short.

Millwall could suffer due to that, so Neil Harris should have other targets lined up.

Leonard seems to be on the fringe at Bramall Lane, but opportunities could still be handed to him as the season goes on, with his versatility impressive.
