Vurnon Anita is not close to leaving Leeds United, even though the versatile player does not appear to be in Marcelo Bielsa's plans.

The Argentinian boss has enjoyed a superb start to life in English football, winning his first three games in all competitions, including two hugely impressive victories over Stoke and Derby in the league.

He has done that with a side that predominantly contains players from last season, however, that does not include Anita.

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay revealed that he was told at the start of the summer that the former Newcastle man would be departing.

However, Anita has suffered with an ankle injury that required surgery in April and it's unclear as to whether he has returned to full fitness.

Yet, the fact Hay adds there is no sign of him leaving yet suggests the 29-year-old is not on the verge of an exit.

The deadline has passed for permanent transfers in the UK, but Anita could still leave on-loan up until the end of the month, which is when most markets across Europe also shut.

The Verdict

The way Bielsa has transformed players from last season in a matter of months makes you think he should keep Anita and see how he performs.

However, if he had already decided from watching Leeds last season that he isn't good enough, then the club should back Bielsa and look to offload Anita when he's available.

It will free up wages and Bielsa will want to work with a tight squad for the season.
