Update provided on Brentford’s new ground

Brentford expect to start building their new stadium in the near future, according to Get West London.

Building work on their new site at Lionel Road is expected to commence before the end of March.

Brentford were awarded planning permission in December 2013 but a number of miscellaneous delays have prevented work from starting from over three years.

Now it finally appears that Brentford have put their setbacks behind them and they anticipate work starting very soon.

Hounslow Council had previously enacted a compulsory purchase order, which was one of the factors delaying the work beginning.

Chief Executive of Brentford FC, Mark Devlin, said:

“I can’t give an exact date but I hope it’s within the first quarter of this year.

Hopefully before we get to the end of March, we’ll have started on site.

We’re still hopeful of making the 2019/20 season.”

Brentford currently play their home games at Griffin Park.
