Nottingham Forest are still looking to tie down youngster Alex Mighten to a new contract.

According to respected journalist Paul Taylor, talks have been ongoing for some time between the club and 17-year-old, who is thought to be highly-rated at the City Ground.

However, Taylor is unsure on any progress with regards to those contract talks, which means that, at the moment, the club has still not settled on a deal to keep the teenager at the club beyond his current terms.

Taylor was responding to a question for The Athletic's Q&A in relation to new contracts for players at the club and admitted that it would be something he needs to chase further with no updates provided as yet by the club.

"Forest have been in talks with Alex Mighten for some time... I need to check for an update on that one. Hopefully, it will get sorted, because he is a very bright talent indeed", Taylor said.

Mighten has already caught the eye this year, firing in a hat-trick for the England under-18's in a 3-2 win over Russia. That performance hit the headlines and put the youngster firmly in the eye-line of the Forest fans, who will be keen to see more young players come through the ranks at the club.

The Reds are reaping the rewards of giving young players a chance, with the Joe Worrall just one example of what can be achieved if the club's young players are nurtured properly and given a chance in the first XI.

The Verdict

Forest have a rich history of producing quality young players so it's no surprise to see another one on the horizon here with Mighten.

As Taylor says, he needs tying down to a new deal ASAP and has the potential to make an impact in the coming few seasons.

Sabri Lamouchi is building something pretty good at Forest at the moment, so getting his best youngsters tied to the club has to be something he looks to do as well.
