Nottingham Forest are struggling to sign Glenn Murray as boss Sabri Lamouchi looks to strengthen his squad this month.

Bringing in a number nine to provide competition to Lewis Grabban is the priority for the Reds this month and some hoped a deal was close after the club confirmed the underwhelming Rafa Mir had left last night.

However, whilst someone may be on the verge of coming in, it won't be Murray.

That's after reporter Alan Nixon revealed that negotiations are not going well in a series of tweets to Forest fans earlier today.

"It’s not going too well. The deal looks doubtful at this point."

He later confirmed that the issue appeared to centre on the length of the contract, with Murray believed to be holding out for an 18-month deal to join a Championship side.

At 36-years-old that would represent a risk for Forest, although Murray has proven in the past that he can thrive in the second tier as the East Midlands outfit look to get back to the Premier League.

Where did these 15 Nottingham Forest players sign from?

The verdict

This is a tricky situation for Forest as in the short-term Murray would be the perfect addition. If he could join on loan until the end of the season he could score the goals to help the side up and his situation could be reassessed in the summer.

But, you can understand why he wants a longer deal, so it will be interesting to see what happens.

Given his lack of game time for Brighton this season it does seem inevitable the experienced forward will leave so you can't rule this one out yet but Forest will be moving on to other targets as well though.
