Aston Villa have no plans to dismiss Steve Bruce at this stage of the season, despite pressure continuing to grow on the Villa Park boss.

It has been a testing start to the season for Villa, who haven’t had the impact expected of them in the Championship.

Bruce’s side have recorded three victories and four draws in their opening eight fixtures, losing on just one occasion.

However, Villa’s style of football has been criticised by sections of the club’s support, who have been quick to turn on Bruce, expecting more from the quality of squad assembled at Villa Park.

According to the Telegraph there are no plans from the Villa hierarchy to sack Bruce, despite pressure from the terraces.

The same report does confirm that changes are being made at a higher level, with Ian Atkins sacked as the club’s European scout, as Villa look to make huge cuts.

Bruce lifted some of the pressure off himself on Tuesday evening, with his side recording their third victory of the season against Rotherham United.

Goals from Tammy Abraham and Yannick Bolasie secured a 2-0 victory, which temporarily moved Bruce’s side into the top-six, however, results last night saw Villa slip just outside the play-offs.

The Verdict

There’s no need for Villa to make any rash decisions with Bruce, as he’s a very experienced manager.

Villa’s start to the season might not be living up to expectations, but it is still a reasonable start given everything going on off the field at the club.

Bruce needs to put a good run together, but some of the criticism he’s received is totally undeserved.
