Swindon Town centre back Akin Odimayo has been offered a new contract by the Robins amidst transfer interest from a host of Championship clubs, with the relegated League One side's official website confirming that an offer has been made.

The talented young defender previously joined Swindon in the summer of last year and has impressed many during his debut campaign for the club as he racked up 30 appearances for his new side.

Naturally this strong form over the course of recent months has attracted plenty of interest in his services from elsewhere, with the second tier quartet of Derby County, Stoke City, Sheffield Wednesday and Preston North End all having targeted the player in more recent times.

With just one month left to run on his current contract at the County Ground, Odimayo's long term future with the club is in doubt as he mulls over the offer of a new deal.

Capable of playing at both the heart of defence and at full back, the 21-year-old was previously on the books of Reading but never made a Championship appearance for the Royals during his time in Berkshire.

The Verdict

This is a fact that Swindon will have already prepared themselves for after falling back into League Two, it is almost inevitable that they will lose some if not all of their best players.

The likes of Odimayo and Scott Twine are some of the brightest young talents that are currently operating outside of England's top two tiers and as a result of this, plenty of clubs will be circling them this summer.

Odimayo has taken to his first season in senior football like a duck to water and will only continue to go from strength to strength wherever he finds himself playing next term.

The main hope will be that he can find a new side that will give him regular game time, otherwise his development could be stunted somewhat after being ever present for the Robins this season.
