With competition for places always likely to be high at Arsenal again this season, it was always going to be the case that some of their younger players would leave the club on loan in search of game time during the summer transfer window.

One player who made such a move was 22-year-old Jordi Osei-Tutu, with the full-back making the temporary move to the Championship with Cardiff City.

Having spent last season on loan in the German second-tier with VfL Bochum, this was another chance for Osei-Tutu to impress those watching on from afar at The Emirates, and prove he is capable of making an impact in English football.

So far, it could probably be argued that things have gone reasonably well for the young defender during his time in the Welsh capital, when he has been able to get on the pitch at least.

Up until now, Osei-Tutu has made seven appearances in all competitions for Cardiff, starting all seven of those games and helping Neil Harris' side to two wins and two draws in his six league outings to date.

The 22-year-old has also caught the eye with his individual performances, posing both an attacking threat and providing some defensive solidity for the Bluebirds when he has been called upon.

However, things have taken a downward turn for Osei-Tutu recently, with the full-back missing all of Cardiff last four games after picking up an injury in the club's recently draw with Middlesbrough.

It is thought that that injury will keep Osei-Tutu out of action until the end of this month at the very least, and it remains to be seen whether he will be able to walk straight back into Cardiff's side when he returns to full fitness.

Given the impact he will surely have been enjoying his recent run of regular football, that will no doubt be a source of frustration for Osei-Tutu, who may well have felt that his recent performances would have been enough for him to earn a chance to challenge for the first-team at Arsenal, once he returns to the Emirates.
