When it comes to recruitment, Brentford have proven themselves to be one of the best in the country in recent years.

They have perfected the art of buying low and selling high and always seem to find a way of replacing key players. However, one signing that hasn't really worked out was Joel Valencia.

The winger joined in the summer of 2019 from Piast Gliwice and endured a frustrating campaign with the Bees, scoring just once in 20 games.

As a result, he moved back to Poland, signing for giants Legia Warsaw for this season but things haven't started to well for the Ecuadorian.

He has featured in the last five games, starting the previous three, but is yet to register a goal or an assist, although it should be said the team have picked up 13 points in that period.

Worryingly for Valencia though, he was replaced at half-time in the weekend win over Lech Poznan, when the side were trailing.

With Valencia having starred in the Polish league in the past, there was an expectation that he would settle immediately into his new surrounding but he is still taking some time to adapt.

But, Legia will expect him to play a big role for them moving forward as they look to retain their title this year.

For Brentford, the reality is that even though Valencia is only 25, he faces a real battle to have a future with the Londoners and they may already considering a permanent sale next summer. To get the best fee possible, they will want the wide man to improve on his start in the Polish capital.
