Middlesbrough are confident that their game against Leeds United will go ahead tonight after a big effort from helpers and ground staff to ensure the surrounding areas are as safe as possible.

Heavy snow over the previous 48 hours put this game into serious doubt, because whilst the pitch was always going to be okay, supporter safety around the ground couldn't be guaranteed.

However, the club issued an update this morning on their official site, that revealed no further snow had hit the region overnight and a clearing operation on the ground was still ongoing.

Gritters and snow ploughs have cleared roads and car parks near the Riverside, whilst footpaths in town will also be cleared.

Work is ongoing between the club, police and council to ensure the surrounding areas remain safe for supporters and further updates are likely to be issued to those going throughout the day.

Around 27,000 tickets have been sold for the clash, with 2,800 away supporters, although the conditions may make it difficult for that many to make the game.

The Verdict

Everyone connected with Middlesbrough deserves huge credit if this game goes ahead as it has been a massive effort from all involved.

We've already seen games called off across the country tomorrow so it demonstrates just how much work has needed to be done.

Hopefully the areas around the ground remain safe for fans and the game goes ahead as it should be a cracker between two sides desperate for three points.
