Garry Monk's position at Sheffield Wednesday is not under any immediate threat despite the Owls recent struggles.

A disappointing 1-0 reverse at home to Luton Town last time out continued Wednesday's awful record at Hillsborough since Monk took over and some fans were complaining about the boss after the defeat.

With the 12 point deduction that was applied ahead of the season, Monk's men are currently eight points from safety. However, even without the penalty, the Yorkshire outfit would be in the bottom half.

But, reporter Dom Howson insisted in a Q&A on Yorkshire Live that there will be no decisions taken by the board in the coming weeks as they look to see Monk settle with his squad after a busy summer.

"As far as I'm aware, he's not under pressure. The club's hierarchy have supported him in the transfer market and recognise it will take him to gel the squad together. But Monk is not daft. He is well aware results have not been up to scratch this year. This is now his team and he has brought in his own backroom team. There are no excuses now."

Wednesday are back in action tomorrow when they travel to take on Rotherham.

The verdict

You can understand why some fans are growing increasingly frustrated as the performances, especially at home, just aren't good enough.

However, it's far too soon to entertain the idea of sacking Monk, so this update should please the fans and the club need stability moving forward.

Monk needs to make tweaks but he is the right man to keep Wednesday in the Championship and they will be desperate to get back to winning ways against the Millers.
